Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Got kids? Going to the Gym Mass anyway, even once or twice a month? Help make the Liturgy of the Word more meaningful for young children, ages four through third grade, plus gain some great insights yourself along the way!
The Children's Liturgy of the Word meets approximately twice a month over the school-year (September - May), during the 10:15 Gym Mass. Children are guided out of Mass to experience a child-friendly Liturgy, which includes modified versions of the Sunday readings, a homily discussion and/or activity surrounding the week's theme, and a modified version of the Creed. Volunteers are asked to do the following:
1) attend one 60-minute information/training session (TBD) in the beginning of the year,
2) arrive 30 minutes before Mass on the scheduled dates for set-up and planning (9:45 a.m.), and
3) spend approximately 20-60 minutes at home to prepare for the week's Gospel and homily activity (length of time depends upon weekly responsibilities).
Please consider becoming involved! This is a great opportunity to learn about the Sunday readings from a different perspective, plus spend some additional quality time with your children. There are approximately twenty Liturgies per year, and each requires a team of three to four parishioners to make it a success.
