Wisdom Literature

In January we will continue our study of Israelite Wisdom literature, specifically the Book of Job, the Book of Wisdom and the Book of Sirach. The Wisdom Books intellectual reflection about life’s problems; they are a quest for universal truth, the rule of life and the nature of created reality. Wisdom is often described as a person accompanying God in God’s act of creation; Wisdom is often personified as a woman in some of the Wisdom literature. Wisdom literature encourages the Wise person to question life, while at the same time analyzing and ordering common experience into rules to live by. Wisdom encourages discipline of thinking, careful reasoning and the control of the passions.
