Dear Friends, I am so happy to share the good news that we are going to be blessed with the grace of a newly ordained priest beginning July 1. Father Jim Boccabella, who was a parishioner at St. Peter’s in Olney and has recently finished his studies at Pope Paul XXIII Seminary, has been assigned by Archbishop Wuerl as our new pastoral associate. Father Ben often talked about how much the parish helped him to form his priesthood. A newly ordained priest’s first assignment sets the tone for his entire priesthood. Yes, there is some teaching that takes place guided by the experienced priests, but the real learning takes place from the feedback that a priest receives almost every day from parishioners. During these last days of September I want to remind our Parish community that next Sunday, October 7, marks the beginning of Respect Life Month. For most of us, when we hear Respect for Life, we are immediately drawn to one issue, the protection of life in the womb and the desire on the part of all faithful Catholics to bring abortion to an end. Clearly, we need to focus on the need to protect human life from its very beginning; and, throughout the month of October, we will pray for an end to abortion on demand in our country. More...
