Sunday Morning Lecture Series

The Sunday Morning Lecture Series features faculty from local Catholic institutions of higher learning such as Georgetown University, The Catholic University of America, and Washington Theological Union.  Past series have covered topics such as the Second Vatican Council and art and architecture in the Church. 

 A distinguished group of Catholic University faculty will present the fall 2008 program, The Church and Social Justice.  The Spring 2009 series, Spirituality in the Church, will be presented by faculty from the Washington Theological Union in connection with their new doctoral program in spirituality.

 Lectures are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Parish Center Chapel with coffee and rolls served in the Parish Center from 8:30 a.m. Lectures are recorded and available on CD for those unable to attend.

 The schedule for the Fall 2008 series, which begins with Blessed Sacrament's own Father Joseph Komonchak, is as follows:

 September 14: John Courtney Murray and the Church's Role in the World. Rev. Joseph A. Komonchak, S.T.L., Ph.D., The John & Gertrude Hubbard Professor of Religious Studies, School of Theology & Religious Studies.

 September 21: Poverty in America and Catholic Social Teaching. Sr. Ann Patrick Conrad, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Former Dean, National Catholic School of Social Service.

 September 28: The Immigration "Problem" for the Catholic. William A. Barbieri, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Ethics, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Director of the Peace and Justice Program, School of Theology & Religious Studies.

 October 5: Contemporary Moral Issues and Medical Ethics. Rev. Brian Johnstone, C.Ss.R., S.T.D., Ph.D. Warren Blanding Professor of Religion and Culture, School of Theology & Religious Studies.

 October 12: The Common Good in the Modern State by V. Bradley Lewis, Ph.D., Associate Professor, School of Philosophy.

 October 19: Where Christianity and Culture Collide: Stem Cell Research, Assisted Suicide, etc. Joseph E. Capizzi, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Moral Theology, School of Theology & Religious Studies.
