Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881 – 1955), a French Jesuit priest and scientist charted a new path in reconciling Catholic theology with evolutionary science.  His mind-stretching insights brought him into conflict with the magisterium as well as his Jesuit superiors.  He was exiled several times, the last being to the United States.  He died in New York City on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1995.
