Below are brief descriptions and links to some of the many family-centered events and activities in Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Family-Centered Liturgies

The Gym Mass - families with small children are encouraged to attend this Mass, celebrated at 10:15 every Sunday in the school gymnasium.  Small children bring food up at the Offertory, and there is a Children's Liturgy of the Word twice a month.

Children's Liturgy of the Word - children leave Mass for a child-friendly Liturgy, which includes modified versions of the Sunday readings, a homily discussion and/or activity surrounding the week's theme, and a modified version of the Creed.

Sacramental Preparation

Blessed Sacrament's sacramental preparation programs are necessary before receiving any of the sacraments listed below.  Please contact Rob Maro, director of religious education, at (202) 449-3989, for additional information.

Education

Blessed Sacrament School (B.S.S.) - founded in 1923, Blessed Sacrament School is a neighborhood parish school dedicated to excellence within an atmosphere of Christian love and concern.  The school educates approximately 490 students in grades K-8.

Blessed Sacrament School of Religion (S.O.R.) - strives to communicate the person and message of Jesus Christ in the context of the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church.  The goal is to "put students not only in touch, but also in communion and intimacy, with Jesus Christ."  Approximately 440 students are enrolled in the S.O.R.

Parent Support Groups

Ministry of Mothers Sharing (M.O.M.S.) - a group of mothers gathered to form a network of mutual spiritual support.

Mothers' Renew Group - parish mothers meet to prepare for Lent and Advent.

Parent Education Program (PEP) - meetings of parents with a guest speaker and discussion, designed to address specific social or educational issues.

Parish Events

The Harvest Bazaar - held each November, features games and activities for children, a lunch and bake sale, along with vendors, used clothing, and a white elephant sale.

The Italian Dinner - held in October, is a great opportunity to enjoy a pasta dinner with friends and family.

The Gym Mass Picnic - held on a Sunday in early June, this event includes the celebration of Mass, a barbecue, and games and activities for children.
